How is “music industry professional” defined?

We define mid-career music industry professionals as individuals with at least 5–10 years of sustained experience working within the music industry — people who have moved beyond entry-level roles and are actively shaping, managing, or influencing music-related projects, organizations, or creative work. This includes, but is not limited to, artist managers, producers, studio owners, event promoters, creative marketers, entertainment lawyers, music supervisors, label representatives, bookers, and others whose work directly contributes to the creation, promotion, distribution, or support of music and its related sectors. AMMP encourages applicants from across this broad spectrum. Whether you’re a creative, an entrepreneur, or someone working behind the scenes to make music happen, if you’re at a point in your career where you’ve built a track record, have a clear professional identity, and are looking to deepen your impact or expand internationally, we consider you a strong candidate.

Are groups / organizations able to apply together?

AMMP applicants must apply individually and will be selected as individuals. However, members of a group/collective/organization are welcome to apply separately.

Are U.S. music industry professionals also eligible?

Yes.

What are the eligible tracks for the AMMP program?

AMMP offers five professional development tracks. Applicants should select the track that best aligns with their current role and career goals:

  1. Music Leadership, Business Strategy, and Rights Management This track is designed for music executives and industry leaders looking to shape the future of the music business. Mentees will deepen their understanding of music publishing, rights management, and business strategy in an evolving global industry. They will build skills in negotiation, deal-making, and relationship management across sectors — working with artists, publishers, record labels, rights organizations, and digital platforms. The track emphasizes strategic oversight of intellectual property, revenue streams, royalties, and metadata — equipping mentees to lead with integrity, manage complex rights portfolios, and drive sustainable growth within the creative economy.

  2. Artist Development & Management This track is for those who play a key role behind the scenes in shaping an artist’s career — from managers and A&R executives to label representatives, booking agents, and PR professionals. Mentees will dive into the art and strategy of nurturing an artist’s career, sharpening their skills in business decisions, career planning, and effective promotion. The track covers a range of essential areas, including crafting marketing campaigns, navigating social media, and building a unique brand for the artist. Mentees will explore how to work alongside a diverse group of industry stakeholders to raise the artist’s profile and ensure sustained visibility. Whether you’re representing the artist or collaborating with other key players, this track offers insights into creating an environment where the artist can thrive in the ever-evolving music landscape.

  3. Music Production & Sound Design This track is for creators working with creative, technical and aesthetic aspects of sound — producers, engineers, mixers, studio owners, composers, and film scorers. From shaping the sound and direction of a piece to making decisions on arrangement, style, tempo, and instrumentation, this track covers the full spectrum of music production. Participants will deepen their understanding of the recording process, mixing techniques, and mastering, learning how to bring an idea from the initial concept to the final delivery. Whether in the studio or working on a film score, this track will equip mentees with the skills to create compelling soundscapes and elevate their productions to the next level.

  4. Music Curation & Live Experience This track is for curators shaping how we experience music — event producers, venue owners, festival organizers, and music supervisors. Mentees will deepen their understanding of the art and business of presenting live music, from organizing and promoting concerts, festivals, and intimate performances to managing the day-to-day operations of various performance spaces, including concert halls, clubs, arenas, and outdoor festivals. The track will focus on curating lineups, building strong partnerships with artists, booking agents, and other event stakeholders, and mastering the logistics of venue operations. Mentees will learn how to assess and manage financial risks related to production, marketing, and audience engagement. Additionally, the track will explore how to create dynamic and memorable experiences that foster an inclusive, immersive atmosphere, allowing both artists and audiences to fully engage with the live music experience.

  5. Cultural Policy and Entertainment Law This track is for leaders driving change in arts and culture, focusing on the vital role of advocating for artists and shaping policies that impact creative industries. It includes entertainment lawyers, nonprofit leaders, educators, researchers, and policymakers. Mentees will explore the intersection of law, public policy, and the arts, gaining skills to advocate for change and influence policies that support creative sectors. Key topics include intellectual property law, artists' rights, cultural preservation, and the role of public policy in the arts. Mentees will develop skills in negotiation, contract review, protecting intellectual property, and providing legal counsel while addressing emerging technological issues. They will build relationships with stakeholders across sectors, including labels, rights organizations, cultural institutions, and government bodies.

What is the selection process? When will Mentees be identified?

All applications will be reviewed by an AMMP Selection Committee made up of representatives from Found Sound Nation and the U.S. Department of State, as well as an external review cohort of music industry experts and professionals. Selected mentees will be notified the week of July 7th 2025 and will have five days to confirm their participation in the program.
